THE WAY: GOD’S PURPOSE

SUMMARY: Every life has a mission and every mission has a ministry.
KEY SCRIPTURE: And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:18-20
1. God has created you on purpose for a purpose
· God has chosen you and called you to purpose and ministry.
· Galatians 1:15
2. God’s mission for your life includes good works
· Good works = your ministry
· Ephesians 2:8-10; Titus 2:11-14
· The fulfillment of God’s desires in our life is directly related to our obedience to him. Obedience opens opportunity.
3. The moment you chose to follow Christ you were called into ministry
· 2 Timothy 1:9; 1 Peter 2:5
4. You have been gifted and authorized for ministry
· 1 Peter 4:10; Acts 1:8; 2 Corinthians 5:20
· Everything you need to fulfill the mission comes from the Holy Spirit.
5. The purpose of your ministry is the building up of His church
· 1 Corinthians 12:4-7; Ephesians 2:19-22; Ephesians 4:15-16
6. The body of Christ needs your ministry
· Romans 12:4-5; 1 Corinthians 12:12-13; 1 Corinthians 12:21-26
7. Your ministry is determined by how God created you
· Stop feeling bad for your gifting. Do not use your personality as an excuse for inaction. Living on a purpose is using whatever God has given you to serve Him, His church, and the needs of others.
Discussion Questions
1. If someone asked you What is your purpose?, what would you say?
If you don’t know what you would say, it’s okay. Spending some time answering some other questions (questions 2 and 3) can help you figure out what your purpose and your ministry is.
2. How has God specifically and uniquely shaped you?
3. What talent, skills, desires, gifts, experience, etc. has God given you that can be used to serve Him, His Church, and others?
4. What do you think it would it look like if every person in the church walked in his or her purpose and mission?
5. To what extent are you fulfilling the Great Commission (see Key Scripture) in your life?
What is an area that you want to work on—building relationships with others, sharing the gospel with others, discipling others, baptizing others, teaching others, etc.?
